Hunnewell Elementary School

OVERVIEW

The Hunnewell Elementary School project consisted of the construction of a new 76,500 square foot elementary school, which serves 365 students. The 2-story, 18-section building includes a gymnasium, warming kitchen, cafetorium, administrative offices and three neighborhood classroom clusters on the first floor. The second floor includes additional neighborhood classroom clusters and areas for a STEM lab, music, library and art. Site work included reworking the existing traffic route and creating 55 parking spaces. The project is located on a confined site in downtown Wellesley and is adjacent to wetlands and a public library. Consistent communication with library representatives was critical in informing community members about the project and limiting the impact on regular community operations. The project is targeting Net Zero-ready construction and an all-electric mechanical system.
