Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School

OVERVIEW

The Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School services students from nine different communities in the Bristol County area. The school offers approximately 24 specialized vocational programs and five post-secondary programs. In addition to Grades 9-12, the SRVTHS facility also houses the Southeastern Technical Institute (STI) for adult education, which holds classes both during the day and in the evenings. The original school was constructed in 1965 with the addition of a new wing in 1974.

The Southeastern Regional School District submitted the addition and renovation project to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) and, in partnership with Collaborative Partners, selected W.T. Rich Company in April of 2011 as its Construction Manager under the MGL Chapter 149A Public CM at Risk delivery method. W.T. Rich was heavily involved throughout the preconstruction process and led the planning and implementation of an early demolition and enabling phase.

The project consisted of selective demolition to all existing buildings, a brand new gymnasium and locker room addition, and a much-needed face lift to school grounds. Specific renovation scope included a new kitchen, cafeteria, science rooms, bathrooms, shop spaces (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Carpentry, Metal Fabrication and Machining), media center, cosmetology, nurses' station, as well as general classroom upgrades. Regarding MEP upgrades, the entire existing school was outfitted with a new air conditioning system, new unit ventilators, and a new fire alarm system and sprinkler protection throughout.

All construction work was completed in several phases in order to maintain full operation of all normal school activities. The new addition was completed on time and on budget on November 27, 2012, and the existing high school, while phased, achieved full occupancy and operation of the facility in October 2013 - two months ahead of schedule.
