06/152/21 Wilkens Science and Engineering Center Topping-Off Ceremony

W.T. Rich gathered with Cape Cod Community College leaders, DCAMM and Payette architects for the topping-off ceremony of CCCC’s new Wilkens Science and Engineering Center in West Barnstable, MA.

More than 50 government officials, board members, college students and staff attended the topping-off event on Tuesday, June 1, celebrating the placement of the highest beam on the 38,000 SF building and recognizing the tremendous amount of effort it required from each team member to reach this significant milestone.

Construction of the two-story building, which launched Jan. 4, 2021, is an important piece of the revitalization plan to modernize the CCCC and further expand its academic missions. The new teaching lab building will include both wet and dry labs, faculty offices, a classroom and a lecture hall for the students and faculty dedicated to exploring unique programs within the science and engineering disciplines.

The W.T. Rich team is faced with managing the construction of the new building within an active campus setting, with the existing Science Building standing only 10 feet away from construction. The new building will include cross-laminated timber roof decking, a PV system and a “Toilet of the Future,” a self-contained toilet system designed to provide an economical and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional waste management.

W.T. Rich is eager to continue working with its project team to deliver the state-of-the-art Frank and Maureen Wilkens Science and Engineering Center that students, staff and the Cape Cod community will enjoy for many decades to come.
