02/35/22 Michelle Wright Receives AGC Building Women in Construction Inspire Award

Every year, the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts (AGC MA) seeks recipients for their Building Women in Construction (BWiC) Inspire. The awards celebrate the most exemplary women in construction who demonstrate leadership, generosity, innovation, and unwavering commitment to their career, colleagues and industry.

The BWiC judge panel awarded the 2022 Tradeswoman of the Year Award to W.T. Rich Company’s Michelle Wright, a journeyman carpenter and multi-year veteran in the construction industry.

Tradeswoman of the Year is reserved for those who are not only experts at their tradecraft but are keen to develop it further. They are women who show an unwavering commitment to their career and to the construction industry.

Since joining W.T. Rich Company in 2021, Michelle has taken on the field leadership role at the MDRP (Multi-Department Relocation Plan – City Hall Cambridge) project – a complex renovation of the historic Cambridge City Hall. This MDRP is part of a continuous and successful sequence of City of Cambridge projects that W.T. Rich has been awarded.

Michelle’s leadership skills are best exemplified by her ongoing performance on the MDRP project. From the outset, Michelle has not only excelled at the general labor/carpentry components but has proven to be someone that holds a deeper understanding of the complex construction process, making sure that workers are safe and operating in a professional manner, while also ensuring that staff and owner objectives are recognized and managed each and every day.

Michelle makes the male/female barrier null and void. Projects of this magnitude are daunting for any seasoned professional but being a woman in the field – in a predominantly male profession – adds to the complexity of performing in a leadership role. Michelle transcends any obstacles that may present themselves regarding her authority by generating a spirit of collaboration that is derived through her natural ability to develop a strong sense of partnership with the site crews.

Fostering team unity, Michelle leads field teams in making cohesive, proactive and effective decisions that consistently serve the best interests of the project and it is this collaborative dedication that makes her a true emerging leader in the construction industry. It is a very proud moment for W.T. Rich to celebrate Michelle as she receives the recognition she deserves.
