Walter T. Rich
Founder and President

Walter is the soul and spirit of W.T. Rich Company. His values, honesty, passion and sense of pragmatism and fair-mindedness have become deeply instilled in the firm’s culture and way of operating. Walter possesses over fifty years of construction experience, beginning his construction career in 1958 as an Estimator at Rich Construction Company. In 1968, he founded W.T. Rich Company and led the company to success as its Chief Estimator for fifteen years and as project manager, executive and administrator throughout the company’s life.

Ralph W. Rich
Vice President and Treasurer

Ralph joined his brother Walter in 1971 and has played a key role in building the company into what it is today. His experience is in construction management and field operations. For thirty years he served as the project manager on many of the company’s most significant and challenging projects. For the last five years, he has served in the role of Vice President in which he oversees all Project Management and Field Operations activities.

Jonathan Rich
Vice President, Business Development and Operations

Jonathan joined W.T. Rich Company in 2003. During the ten years prior to joining the firm, Jonathan worked as Strategy and Management consultant, advising and working closely with senior leaders from some of the world’s largest companies such as Nokia, Microsoft, Chase, Nike, Motorola, Cathay Pacific, and CIGNA. He spent six years in Hong Kong, living and working all around Southeast Asia. Jonathan received an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1991. Prior to that, he worked as a software engineer for Digital Equipment Corporation. Jonathan currently plays a direct role in business development, estimating, project management and building upon the firm’s current capabilities for continued success in the future.

Sunny Mak
Chief Estimator

Sunny Mak joined W.T. Rich Company in 2005, replacing our previous Chief Estimator of 24 years. Sunny came to us with over 23 years of construction estimating and project management experience, having served as a senior or chief estimator for Suffolk Construction, Modern Continental, Peabody Construction and Perini. He has deep experience in conceptual estimating, construction management, pre-construction services and hard bid estimating. Sunny has made an immediate impact on our estimating capabilities and performance, streamlining the estimating process, expanding sub-contractor networks and introducing new technologies, tools and approaches.

Brian Santos
Project Manager

Brian, a graduate from Wentworth Institute of Technology, joined the W.T. Rich Company in 1999. Brian serves as a senior project manager with significant expertise and accomplishments in the construction industry. He has led W.T. Rich Company to reposition itself for growth and competitiveness by introducing and implementing leading edge computer technologies and business practices. Brian has implemented project systems, developed business development and marketing materials, and helps to manage and improve administrative functions. He has served as the chairman for the AGC's Young Contractors Council. Brian's personal qualities include intuitive and analytical skills; tactical and strategic thinking; creative and motivational capabilities; strong initiative and the ability to get things done.

Erik Swenson
Project Manager

Erik first joined W.T. Rich Company in 2002 as a co-op student from the Wentworth Institute of Technology. After obtaining his Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management in August 2004, Erik joined the company full-time as a Project Manager. Erik is an extremely bright, young talent within the firm. During his relatively short tenure with the company, he has been able to assume primary project management responsibilities for several projects with contract values in excess of $20 million. In addition, he has played a key role in re-vamping and improving a wide range of project management processes and procedures. Erik has an outstanding work ethic, is extremely well-organized and develops outstanding relationships with our clients, designers and sub-contractors.

John deBettencourt
Project Superintendent

John deBettencourt has worked in the construction industry for over 28 years, including 21 years as a Project Superintendent for large commercial construction projects. He is consistently regarded by designers, owners and sub-contractors as an exceptional talent in the construction field. He possesses extensive knowledge of the technical construction process and field operations. He has outstanding relationship and organizational skills. John has a unique ability to manage complexity and has developed an expertise in running large, challenging renovation projects. In recent years, John was the Project Superintendent on two highly complex and successful renovation projects that were $25 million and $35 million in size respectively.

John Rich
Project Superintendent

John Rich has worked in the construction industry for over 20 years, including 12 years as a Project Superintendent with W.T. Rich Company. John’s background is as a union carpenter and carpenter foreman where he initially developed his technical skills and knowledge in construction. John has a degree in Applied Sciences Building Technology from the Wentworth Institute of Technology. Today, John is regarded as one of our most conscientious, diligent and detailed Superintendents. He develops outstanding relationships with owners, designers and sub-contractors. He possesses extensive knowledge of the technical construction process and field operations. John has recently served as the Project Superintendent on projects in excess of $20 million in size.

Ed Zimo
Project Superintendent

Ed Zimo has worked in the construction industry for over 20 years, including 12 years as a Project Superintendent with W.T. Rich Company. Ed has a degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern university and worked previously as a Field Engineer for Suffolk Construction. Ed possesses outstanding technical expertise and extensive knowledge of construction operations. He has been responsible for several complex and highly successful renovation and restoration projects, and recently completed the construction of a new $22 million elementary school in Taunton. Ed consistently develops excellent relationships with all parties throughout the construction process.

Walter McLeod
Project Superintendent

Walter McLeod has over 20 years of construction industry experience. He has served as a Project Superintendent for the last 14 years for companies such as JT Callahan & Sons, Eastern Contractors and Seaver Construction. He has been a Project Superintendent with W.T. Rich Company since 2006. Walter is a highly seasoned Superintendent. He has been responsible for projects up to $70 million in size. Walter is highly regarded and respected for his construction knowledge, technical expertise and management skills throughout the construction industry.

Brian Turley
Project Superintendent

Brian Turley has over 20 years experience in the construction industry, including over ten years of on-site construction management experience as a superintendent. Prior to joining W.T. Rich Company in 2006, Brian worked for over 15 years with Peabody Construction, where he served initially as an Assistant Superintendent and then as a Project Superintendent. He has experience with design build, renovation work and fast track projects. In addition to his outstanding technical expertise, Brian had excellent administrative, organizational and computer skills.

Art Claes
Safety Officer

Art has over 12 years of construction safety Experience. He has served as W.T. Rich's Safety Officer since 2003. In that role, he is responsible for development and maintenance of the company's safety standards, development and implementation of project-specific safety programs, on-site inspections and monitoring of safety compliance and delivery of safety training.
In a short amount of time, you literally gutted and rebuilt the Boston Young Men’s Christian Union Building in Downtown Boston. The dedication and commitment W. T. Rich demonstrated to ensure the project schedule was met without sacrificing quality or workmanship did not go unnoticed. When an unexpected pre-existing design condition was encountered, your team was up to the task of providing prompt remediation. There is no question that W. T. Rich delivers high value service and we were proud to have had this association.
