The Rehabilitation Of Boston's Pine Street Inn
An
outstanding feature of the Pine Street Inn, a shelter for the homeless
with 300 beds for men and 50 beds for women, is a magnificent 150-foot
tower with some unique architectural details. Copied from the famous
Palazzo Vecchio building in Florence, Italy, the tower is a landmark in
Boston and readily visible in the area of Harrison Avenue and Albany Street
near the Southeast Expressway. During the rehabilitation of the Pine Street
Inn, W.T. Rich completely restored the tower. Both masonry and stonework
were rehabilitated, maintaining all of the historic features.
